Dr. Ana Negrón - Greens on a Budget

Dr. Negron

Over the past thirty years her extensive experience includes serving minority communities and teaching medical students and residents. She currently volunteers her medical services at The Clinic and is a community preceptor at a family medicine residency program.

In early 2003 she founded Greens on a Budget - a hands on program for patients, professionals, and people in the community where she uses an abundance of whole foods in a great variety of colors to enjoy delicious, simple, and nourishing meals with her participants.

For the past two years, St. Peter’s Church (next door to The Clinic) has graciously donated the use of their kitchen for Dr. Negrón’s cooking classes. Held one Tuesday evening each month, she cooks with as many as twenty people at a time! These groups are trilingual - held in English, Spanish and Portugese. They are very hands-on, with each participant learning how to identify and prepare fresh fruits, grains and vegetables, creating simple, inexpensive and delicious meals. You only have to attend one of Dr. Negrón’s cooking classes to understand that not only is food powerful medicine, it is also a great community-builder.

Dr. Negrón states, “The treatment plan for heartburn, arthritis, diabetes, cancer, migraine, heart disease...among others includes food. There is nothing conservative about resigning people to a lifetime of prescription medications for conditions that are linked to lifestyle. My focus is on nourishment of the whole person.”
